Everything your dog needs
in Greater Victoria.
Dog-Friendly Patios
Sip craft beer and enjoy fresh seafood while your pup lounges by your side. We have tested every pet-friendly patio from James Bay to Sidney.
Off-Leash Parks
Fenced fields, wooded trails, and ocean-side meadows where your dog can run free. Our picks cover every municipality in Greater Victoria.
Beach Access
From the Dallas Road waterfront to Sandcut Beach, find out where dogs are welcome, when seasonal restrictions apply, and which beaches stay open year-round.
Ziggy & Sahara
approve every spot.
Every patio, park, and beach in this guide has been personally vetted by our Chief Canines: Ziggy, a 6-year-old Rottweiler with strong opinions on shade and water bowls, and Sahara, a 13-year-old Lab mix who sets the pace on every trail walk.
If Ziggy and Sahara give it two paws up, you know it is worth the trip.
Bylaws every dog owner
should know.
Leash Laws
Dogs must be leashed in all public spaces unless signage indicates an off-leash area. Saanich has banned retractable leashes in parks entirely.
Seasonal Restrictions
Many beaches enforce leash requirements from June 15 to September 15 to protect nesting birds along the Victoria Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
Poop & Scoop
All municipalities in Greater Victoria require you to pick up after your dog. Carry bags at all times — fines apply.
Off-Leash Zones
Look for official signage designating off-leash areas. Esquimalt maintains six leash-optional locations, including one year-round beach.
